End of Season - Announcement
by posted 07/31/2020

Raptors Nation –

To begin, I hope that everyone is well and enjoying their summer in whatever shape and form that has taken.  This season no doubt marked the most challenging and trying for everyone.  Through what seemed to be endless hours of discussions, virtual meetings, and behind the scenes work, the AYL was able to hold just under 1,000 games for our Denver Metro area athletes.  We cannot thank you enough for your patience, support, help, and words of encouragement as we launched and played a modified season.  We hope that you and your athletes were able to enjoy the time on the diamond as much as possible in getting to experience a sport that we all love.  Although, not knowing the future of the 2021 season, we are hopeful that with time things may ease or more importantly understanding what the season could look like ahead of time.  Again, we thank you tremendously and wish your athletes all the best until we see them again next spring.

We also are excited to announce an upcoming change within our organization.  It’s taken me a good couple weeks to find the words because you are all amazing families with the best kids and created so many great memories for me and my team that makes this difficult.  After this season my team and I have decided to transition out and bring in a new core of leadership that can continue and create a more robust program as our kids are phasing out of youth sports.  This was really important to me having a leader exhibit the same care and have the time to volunteer to support all of you and for our upcoming athletes while being in the present with parents and the sport.  Therefore, I’m excited to introduce to you Collin Cacchione as the new Director of Baseball.

It has been a great pleasure meeting many of you and watching your athletes grow up on the diamond, including some of our very own alumni that have continued beyond to college baseball.  My team as well as many of you throughout the years have accomplished many amazing things for our community and I wanted to recognize some of those things here:

  • Fully restructuring and re-branding from DC Dolphins to Raptors Athletics
  • Increasing the number of Raptors teams from 15 to 25 since 2015 (continues to grow)
  • Re-established coaching support and development
  • Providing team equipment and coaches gear annually
  • Enhanced the player atmosphere and parent collaboration
  • Created a local network of umpires to cover games during the shortage in our area
  • Re-established, created and developed multiple partnerships with local businesses, the Town of Castle Rock, and Douglas County.
  • Established connections and partnerships with DCHS & CVHS, along with other profit and non-profit baseball organizations and clubs
  • Creating an annual game for challenged athletes held every year for 5 seasons
  • Created an equipment drive benefitting The Boys & Girls Club of Metro Denver.
  • Provided opportunities for our high school athletes to volunteer and mentor youth athletes
  • Created and hosted Bombers for Bones charity event that raised over $100K in 3 years to support those affected with FOP.

There are many moments and things in between especially all the fun I’ve had watching many of you at the World Series games, or even walking the warning track at Coors Field. I know I couldn’t have done what I have done, and the program be where it is today without those of you who have helped make it become what it is for the community. Some of you I would like to thank directly and know that your impact to this organization and to me, I am beyond forever grateful for:

  • Dustin & my boys (Tanner, Connor & Trevor)
  • Scott Burgess and family (Steph, Alli & Caleb)
  • Jim Potter and family (Gina, Grace & Matthew)
  • Craig Simmons and family (Enny & Nathan)
  • Sarah Futa
  • Mark Steinke
  • Justin Anderson
  • Todd Stott
  • Carlos Aragon
  • Danny Nourse
  • Kevin McAllister
  • Boo Sevier
  • Jason Newbold
  • Brooks Dodson
  • Ted Gensler
  • John McSweeny
  • Brian Hickey

Scott & Jim – you became an extension of my family and the support you gave to these kids and families is tremendous throughout the years.  I dedicate much of this success of the organization to you both.  Thank you.

All my coaches – you guys rock!!!  Coaching is demanding, full of expectations, and fulfilling all at the same time. Seriously all the time and dedication you put in for the sport is genuine. I’m so proud of you and grateful to have met each of you (even if at times we weren’t on the same page).  And congrats to a few of you that have continued to coach on locally at the high schools.

I’ll sign off with just an extra thank you to all of you parents.  I have thoroughly enjoyed this experience over the years, and look forward to cheering you all on from even more behind the scenes.  You can always reach out in the meantime during the transition as I will be helping Collin and his team through the 2021 season, but I encourage you to start contacting him directly if needed.
